Round 12 Action – Mildura Squash Inc Spring Pennant 2018
In Division 2, round 12 action it was a match of the round effort that saw Helen Munro fight off a very determine Heather Laity to claim victory in 4 games. Both players had to adjust to extremely warm conditions on court, rallies were long and tiering. Munro won the first game, before Laity scored the 2nd much to her delight, lots of practice time over the season has seen a great improvement in Laity’s’ game. Munro was able to gain the upper hand in the 3rd to lead 2-1, in the end it was the composure of Munro scoring the win 3 games to 1.
Great to see Gloria Jago back on court and in the winner’s circle with a well fought win over Charlotte Fisher, both ladies played some great touch shots considering how much bounce the ball had Jago victorious in 3 games.
Other matches saw a great tussle between Cameron Whyte and Jan Paul Rensen. It was a 3-nil win to Whyte however, the score line did not reflect the effort Rensen was putting into each rally, he just was not able to convert that on the score board. Rohan Whyte was a winner in a well thought out match against crafty opponent in Matthew Cook winning 3 nil.
In Division 1, it was intense action as the bouncy conditions meant long drawn out rallies. Doug Garsed and Chris Stamos battled out a humdinger of a match as Garsed won the 1st game, before Stamos found his targets to level a 1-1. Garsed then settled to take the next game in a close effort 15-13 to lead the match 2-1. Stamos full of running took the 4th game easily and it went right down to the wire in the 5th game with Doug Garsed able to claim a victory after almost an hour on court in trying conditions.
Jeannette Vear looked to be cruising in her match against Michael Bacon as she took the lead 2 games to nil, it was Bacon then winning the 3rd after putting up a stronger fight. In the end it was the skill of Vear winning out to claim the win 3 games to 1.
Chris Tassone was lucky to get a win all be it a forfeit after opponent Michael Penna had done all the hard work to get 2 games to 1 lead, before lunging for a backhand shot and falling to the fall with a rolled ankle. It was determined after an injury time out that he couldn’t continue and handed the win to Tassone.
Other matches saw Father defeat Son as Wayne Sparks had to compete hard to win 3-1. Paul Takacs was able to get the job down as he defeated a talented junior in Eamonn Whyte in 3 games. Dale Watson was the steadier as he defeated Yvonne Edwards struggling just a little bit with movement due to a dodgy ankle, Watson the winner 3 games to nil.
