Round 3 Action – Mildura Squash Inc Autumn Pennant 2019
Division 2 action continued to impress as Team One defeated Team Two 2 rubbers to 1. It was a battle of the 5 game marathons as Maz Valentino and Chelsea Thornton battled for over an hour to see who would come out on top. Valentino won the 1st game, before the pendulum swung to the favour of Thornton who took a lead 2-1. None the less a fight back was on as Maz Valentino won the 4th game to go to a 5th game. A small blood rule, however, slowed the proceeding by (Thornton) however it had no effect on the fast finish of Valentino securing victory against a gallant Thornton 3-2.
Davin Demarco and Chris Edlington also had mammoth battle as they went to 5 games. It was game for game as Demarco won the 1st, then Edlington and then back again, until it was the better fitness of Davin Demarco getting him the win in 5 games, both players had given it everything. Heather Laity got a walkover win against Matt Cook.
Team Three got the runs on the board with 2 rubbers to 1 defeat of Team Four. Natalina Mammone continues to improve since the start of the season as she battled a demand Kane Woodfrey. Great serving by Mammone was the difference as she won in 3 games. Michelle Le Roux also in the winner’s circle as she was able to account for Helen Munro in 3 games. Davin Demarco was filling in and was able to get a win against Aleara Demarco.
In Division 1 play Hard Knutts continue to be hard to beat as the defeated Team One 3 rubbers to 1. Chris Tassone was able to hit a better ball and defeated opponent Steve Pongrac in 3 games. Graeme Whyte was able to have the ball on a string as he accounted for the fast Wade Stephens in 3 games. Michael Penna was able to play the more consistent squash to defeat Zac Sparks in 4 very competitive games. Only highlight for Team One the win to Kevin Healy (Healy) wasn’t really challenged in his match against Paul Takacs winning in 3 games.
CC’s & Dried scrapped over the line to defeat Point “O” Five by 1 game. Cameron Whyte was competitive in his lost to a determined Jeannette Vear losing in 4 games. Simon Morrison then levelled the tie 1 rubber each as he had to battle an inform Donna Fisher to win 3 games to 1. Chris Stamos was looking a little rusty this week as he was not able to keep up the pace to the Wayne Sparks power game going down in 4 competitive games. It was the solid effort of Gary Callaway returning after an extended break to defeat a fire up Doug Garsed winning in 3 games to get the bonus ladder points for his team and 1st win of his season.
